It Runs in the Family – auditions

West Coast Players is pleased to announce auditions for Ray Cooney’s It Runs in the Family on Monday and Tuesday, June 5 and 6, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the theatre
“If you’re going to tell a lie, tell a whopper,” yells Dr. Mortimore as events begin to spin deliciously out of control in Ray Cooney’s It Runs in the Family
A hilarious case of mistaken identity, misfortune, and misbehaviour in the doctor’s quarters of a busy London area hospital, It Runs in the Family contains the usual assortment of farcical nuts running in and out of doors mistaking everybody for everyone else. A paternity suit, an ex wife, a punkish son, a syringe-happy matron, and various other lunatics color the fast-moving, side-splitting show from beginning to end.
Director Jessica Burchfield will be looking to cast 7 male actors and 5 female actors for the following characters:
Dr. David Mortimer (M 35-50): accomplished lead of the play who is rising in his career at the hospital; excellent communicator; witty comedic timing; unfortunately caught in a past affair, but uses his quick wit and communication skills to get out of the tough spot, only to confuse and muddle down the story to the point of hilarious complexity
Rosemary Mortimer (F 35-45): head doctor David Mortimore’s attractive wife; she is refined, outgoing and pleasant; nothing gets past her
Dr. Hubert Bonney (M 25-40): often overlooked and insignificant, but enthusiastic “nincompoop” famous in farce; likeable; physical comedy required; high energy
Dr. Mike Connelly (M 20-35): an exuberant, boyish doctor who loves acting and dressing up; eager to please but is often frenetic
Sir Willoughby Drake (M 40-75): Chair of the Board of St. Andrew’s Hospital; a stern administrator, and a bit out of touch with what really goes on in the hospital
Matron (F 30-60): a no-nonsense type of woman; robust, ample, strict, a rule follower
Jane Tate (F 30-50): pretty, likeable former nurse; a good mother, though perhaps overly protective
Leslie Tate (M 16-25): punk exterior; exudes a constant physical threat, though surprisingly intellectual and emotional; uses very simple logic; excitable
Sister (F 18-35): incredibly pleasant and efficient nurse at the hospital; no one knows anything about her and everyone constantly forgets
Bill Lesley (M 45-75): eccentric and fun-loving; his self-image is 35 years ago; his brain has short circuited
Mother Bonney (F 50-80): Auntie Mame’s grandmother; always on the verge of throwing a party, though never actually doing so; if it were not for her daily, vigilant efforts, the world would be chaos; completely ineffectual
Police Sergeant (M/F 30-60): practical; down to earth; by the book; no sense of humor; he/she is logic
Auditions will be cold readings from the script.
Production dates are August 4- August 20, 2017. No performers paid.
